WEEK 70: 28 May: Examples and Citation with Elliott

Admin

Plan your work and work your plan in the final month before your video submission for the IRL exhibition. Please look here for examples of the showcase/showreel from 2024

You should also anticipate writing a short (100 words) and preparing a thumbnail image.

Tasks

For your IRL showcase submission: You should anticipate writing a short (100 words) and preparing a thumbnail image. Here are some examples of biogs to get you going. Please also see the examples of your peers from 2024, in the folder above.

If you have begun writing parts of your unit 7 submission, please bring a text sample of it to class. And spend a few minutes consider your positionality and how this informs your writing and investigation.

Academic Support Workshop 28th May 2025

12:00 – 13:00: with Kristina Kapilin. This workshop will focus on strategies for synthesising research and how this can support you in building an argument and gain new insights.

As for previous workshops with Bethany, it will be on the Academic Support Teams channel.

LIVE SESSION

13:00 – 15:00: You’ll be with Elliott, looking at Harvard style academic citation conventions; the use of AI (large-language-models) in academic work; and exploring issues of voice and positionality. Please also anticipate the online version of the C School Showcase. (You’ll recall we began speaking about that in our Pecha Kucha session.)

We will be looking at the different between writing framed with objective neutrality (“it can be reasoned that…”), personal opinion (“it is my conclusion that…” / “I am led to believe…”) and a collective style (“we can understand…”). And how choosing from one of these options shapes how our text communicates with our reader in different ways.

Harvard citation

USE NEUTRAL TONE- AND THEN U CNA USE PERSONAL STORIES AT START OF PARAGRAPH TO SHOW EXPERIENCE BUT KEEP MOST OF IT NEUTRAL

I THINK- A BIT OF THIS ONE OR THE WE ONE

WE THINK

IT IS THOUGHT- THIS ONE
